Ch.13 His angel in the snow

Damion didn’t say anything as he lifted up his shirt to reveal a large purplish bruise form on his abs. It was from the ice-hard snowball that Rookie chucked. It all became clear now as Rookie looked guiltily up at Damion. 

‘If that hit Sophie, it would have inflicted a whole lot more damage.’ That was why Damion was mad. That was why he took the hit; it was because Rookie didn’t stop to think how much strength he was using in that throw. Even, something as harmless as a snowball could be deadly. 

Rookie whispered, softly, “Sorry,” as he bowed his head down in shame. 

Damion’s scowl softened a bit, “Always keep your strength in check.” He grabbed Rookie’s hand and pulled him out of the snow. 

Rookie just stood there as Damion went to collect Sophie, so they could all continue their trip into the market. 

As Damion approached Sophie, he noticed her limbs were stretched out with the form of a snow angel beneath her. She continued to release puffs of air, still winded from laughing, so hard. 

‘It feels, so good to laugh like this… I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy before… in my old life,’ she mused as she stared up at the sky while snowflakes landed on her rosy cheeks. 

A shadow casted over her like a blanket. She looked further behind to see Damion looking down at her; an amused smirk graced his handsome face. 

“Was that really necessary?” She referred to poor Rookie being buried alive. 

The demon crouched down and fixed her bangs with a clawed finger; secretly admiring how beautiful she looked with her hair spread out against the white snow. The little flurries clinging to her eyelashes, giving her a pure, delicate look. “Well I must protect milady.” Her eyes shined a little more as she smiled up at him. 

He tapped her nose then, “And If I recall, you were the one who insisted that we get to the market.” Damion offered his hand to her which she accepted graciously. He pulled her up with no effort and offered his elbow to her, leading her into the market with Rookie and Ruby walking right beside her.
